Malocclusion in a Chinchilla | | | Fig.1 |
| | The 2 year old male chinchilla named "Balu had bad appetite and apathy, loosed weight and was in a general bad shape, Fig.1 | | | Fig.2 |
| | A close examination of the oral cavity shows obvious malocclusion due to overgrown upper incisors, frontal view, Fig.2, and lateral view Fig.3. | | | Fig.3 |
| | The X-rays were performed in lateral incidence, using a size 4 occlusal film, Fig.4, they prove that not only the incisors are overgrown or over extruded, but also the first 2 premolars on the left side of the maxilla. The tooth excess in the incisor area was removed with a Horico diamond disc, and the cheek teeth excess using a round tungsten steel burr. | | | Fig.4 |
| The occlusion was corrected and now is back to normal, Fig.5. However, this is only a temporary solution since the teeth will erupt continuously and the malocclusion will reoccur. Thats why we recommended that the owner should return every 6 weeks for malocclusion correction. DDr. Camil Stoian PhD, Mag. Helene Widmann
